Hospital Policy Guidelines

Measuring:

  • ALWAYS measure patient prior to choosing a size - DO NOT guess the measurement
  • Measure around the ankle (Two finger-widths above the ankle bone) using the colour coded measuring tapes for below-knee Fitlegs AES stockings.
  • Check Limb proportions and go up a size for larger than an average calf, longer legs or big feet. If a measurement falls directly between two sizes, then choose the larger size.
  • If using thigh length, ensure max thigh circumference doesn’t exceed the stated measurement on the measuring chart for the size chosen based on ankle measurement
  • Refer to the measuring chart for further guidance

 Fitting:

  • Toes should be covered
  • Black patch should sit at the bottom of the heel
  • Soft patch should sit at the back of the heel
  • The non-slip band should sit two finger widths below the knee crease
  • Do not fold or roll down the stocking
  • Apply Fitlegs using the inside out method. Refer to packaging for diagrams and more details
  • Refer to the "How to Use" video above for further guidance

 Patient Care:

  • Don’t leave stockings off for more than 30 minutes in a 24 hour period
  • Re-measure daily to ensure the patient is still wearing the correct size
  • If patient fits themselves, ensure they have the correct fitting information
  • If the skin develops redness or soreness, remove and consult with Doctor.
  • Issue a clean pair weekly. If visibly soiled, replace immediately with clean pair.

 Documentation:

  • Information for use (IFU) booklet inside the stocking package which highlights care, contraindications and washing instructions
  • Please consult your hospitals' documentation policy for patients and act accordingly each time patient is checked, measured and fitted with Fitlegs.
